Let’s face it, Millennials usually get a bad rap. The list of negative stereotypes is extensive– impatient, pretentious, fragile, obsessed with technology, etc. Millennials incorporate their values into every facet of their lives, including the office. But Millennials are actually helping our workplaces by acting as “positive disrupters,” individuals who challenge and improve the status quo. Commercial Property Executive explains how Millennials are driving change in the workplace.
Here are just a few of the ways that Millennials are reshaping today’s work environment:
Digitization- One of the salient features of Millennials is their affinity for technology. This will prove to be invaluable as your office employs more innovative and technological means. The business world has become more and more digitized, with Millennials ushering their workspaces into the future.
Personalized Workspaces- Most Millennials value self-expression, often decorating their designated areas with personal items that define them. While you may prefer that neat-if-sterile office, their drive to personalize their space will help them connect with the company. Their penchant for self-expression will promote individuality and ownership of their role. By allowing Millennial employees to express themselves (within reason, of course), they will embrace their work roles with gusto. They will work even harder once they see themselves as a part of the company.
Ambition- Millennials are often categorized as entitled, this reputation is overblown. It’s true that most of them dream of working at a top-tier company with unlimited resources, but so did every other generation. They’re much harder workers than people give them credit for, especially if they find a position and a company they love. In fact, there’s a reason why so many Millennials rise to leadership roles so shortly after entering the workforce.
At CoreAxis, we offer specialized Millennial training programs that cater to this generation’s specific needs. As a result, we have seen plenty of young professionals rise through the ranks and prove to be positive disrupters.
