Processes are the backbone of any organization. Your employees need processes in order to successfully navigate through their daily tasks. Without clearly documented processes, your employees could struggle to understand their roles and responsibilities within the organization.
Documented processes provide:
- Structure. Employees know where they fit into the overall process, what tasks they are responsible for completing and how they connect with other roles in the process.
- Consistency. Jobs are performed more uniformly. Regardless of who is doing the work, employees are on the same page as to how the work should get done.
- Guidance. Employees have documents to refer back to when they need a refresher.
When processes are clearly and accurately documented, employees aren’t left wondering what path they should take or if the path they are on is the right one. There is no guess work. They can focus on successfully executing their duties.

Defining your processes is only step one. It is important to document those processes and review them every year or so to make sure the documents and processes are up-to-date. This helps to ensure your employees can do their job successfully and meet the needs of your organization and customers.
